HVAC Service Tech Level I:
Performs maintenance and
service repairs on heating, ventilating,
and air conditioning systems. Installs
new units or replacement parts for
existing units according to
specifications and established safety
guidelines. Requires a high school
diploma or its equivalent. May be
required to complete an apprenticeship
and/or formal training in area of
specialty. Requires 0-3 years of
experience in the field or in a related
area. Has knowledge of commonly-used
concepts, practices, tools, instruments,
and procedures within a particular
field. Relies on instructions and
pre-established guidelines to perform
the functions of the job. Must complete
legible paperwork and submit in a timely
manner. Must be able to wire low
voltage and high voltage circuits on new
installations. Requires own hand tools,
gauges, and meters. Works under
immediate supervision. Primary job
functions do not typically require
exercising independent judgment.
Typically reports to a supervisor or
manager.
Pay range between $8.00
and $12.00 per hour

Service Tech Level II:
Performs all the duties
of a Service Tech Level I in addition to
the following duties. Must be NATE
certified in at least one discipline and
must obtain Journeyman’s Card within 12
months. Requires 4+ years of experience
in the field or in a related area.
Relies on limited experience and
judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
Must be able to solder and braze
refrigerant systems, evacuate systems by
procedure, and charge R-22 and R-410a
systems by both super heat and sub
cooling. Must be able to wire in zone
control systems. Must be able to
troubleshoot and repair low voltage and
high voltage circuits and gas furnaces.
Must possess a general knowledge of oil
furnaces and able to clean and service
boilers. Must understand and be able to
troubleshoot and repair defrost cycle
problems and refrigerant cycle
problems. Must be able to configure
variable speed systems for
dehumidification and heat staging.
Works under general supervision;
typically reports to a supervisor or
manager. A certain degree of creativity
and latitude is required.
Pay range between $13.00
and $18.00 per
hour.

HVAC Service Tech Level III:
Performs all the duties
of a Service Tech Level II in addition
to the following duties. Must
be NATE certified in at least Heat Pumps
and Gas furnace disciplines and must
obtain Masters Card. Requires a minimum
of 8 years of experience in the field.
Must be proficient in troubleshooting
electronic zone control systems, two
speed systems, variable speed systems,
gas furnaces, oil furnaces, hydronic
heating, and light commercial systems up
to 20-tons. Relies on experience and
judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
Performs a variety of complicated
tasks. May lead and direct the work of
others. Typically reports to a
supervisor or manager. A wide degree of
creativity and latitude is expected.
Pay range $19.00
and up per
hour.
