HVAC Installation Tech Level I:
Requires 0-5 years of experience
in the field or in a related area. Performs
basic ductwork installation. Able to install
sheet metal, flex duct, and furnace venting.
Understands basic concept of airflow and
venting. Requires own sheet metal tools. Has
basic knowledge of inventory items. Can pull
stock and spread jobs with supervision. Must
obtain CFC certification within 12 months.
Requires a high school diploma or its
equivalent. May be required to complete an
apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of
specialty. Relies on instructions and
pre-established guidelines to perform the
functions of the job. Works under immediate
supervision. Primary job functions do not
typically require exercising independent
judgment. Typically reports to a Level II or
Level III installation technician.
Pay range between $8.00 and
$12.00 per hour

Installation
Tech Level II:
Performs all the duties of an
Installation Tech Level I in addition to the
following duties. Requires 5+ years of
experience in the field or in a related area.
Must be NATE certified in at least one
discipline and must obtain Journeyman’s Card
within 36 months. Relies on limited experience
and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Must
be able to solder and braze refrigerant systems,
and evacuate systems by procedure. Must be able
to wire high voltage and basic low voltage
circuits. Must be able to design and layout
basic duct systems. Must be able to field
fabricate basic ductwork and fabricate a variety
of specialty ductwork in the shop. Must have
good understanding of duct calculator and
residential airflow requirements. Must be able
to configure all types of thermostats based on
the equipment installed including variable speed
motors, dehumidification and heat staging.
Works under general supervision; typically
reports to a supervisor or manager. A certain
degree of creativity and latitude is required.
Pay range between $12.00 and $18.00
per hour.

HVAC Installation Tech Level III:
Performs all the duties of an
Installation Tech Level II in addition to the
following duties.
Requires a minimum of 7 years of experience in
the field. Must
be NATE certified in two or more disciplines and
must obtain Masters Card within 24 months. Must
be able to design and supervise the installation
of all types of duct systems including zoning
systems. Must be able to charge R-22 and
R-410a systems by both super heat and sub
cooling. Must be
able to wire and
configure zone
systems. Must have advanced
understanding of duct calculator and residential
airflow requirements. Must be able to take
static pressure reading of duct systems and
adjust ductwork accordingly.
Relies
on experience and judgment to plan and
accomplish goals. Performs a variety of
complicated tasks. May lead and direct the work
of others. Typically reports to a supervisor or
manager. A wide degree of creativity and
latitude is expected. Must be able to take
direction from immediate supervisor and quickly
comprehend instructions.
Pay range $19.00
and up per hour.
